Backcountry MauiBackcountry Maui offers few very small towns and is seldom seen by visitors. The roads are very windy with many blind curves and one-lane bridges, and it is a violation of rental car contracts to traverse them. There are many spectacular views of the ocean here, and it is the ultimate in solitude on Maui. Backcountry Maui temperatures average between 65 - 89 degrees in the summer and 63 - 84 degrees in the winter. Average rainfall in Backcountry Maui is 1 inch in the summer and 3 inches in the winter.

Nakalele BlowholeLocated 8 miles north of Kapalua on the windy part of Hwy 30 is this gorgeous point overlooking the Nakalele Blowhole. The vast view of the ocean and steep, rocky sea cliffs from here are breathtaking, and when the surf and tide conditions are right, you can see the massive force of the spray from the blowhole. This location is extremely windy and not recommended for children or elderly guests. |
